Brief Life Sketch of DR. NURUL ALAM KHAN

He was born in village Pukurpar distinct Pabna on 15th March 1942.

He studied in Dhobakhola Coronation High School, Pabna (Matriculation, 1957), Jagannath college, Dhaka (I. Sc., 1959), and M.Sc., 1964).

He was appointed a Lecturer in the department of Mathematics, Dhaka University in March, 1965, acted as a House- Tutor (West House), Iqbal Hall, DU., during 1965- 67.

He obtained Ph. D degree from Charles’ university, Prague (Czech Republic) in February, 1970 and returned back to DU. As an assistant Professor.

He was selected as a Professor to work in an Iranian University under the then Iran- Pakistan Cultural Exchange Program and worked there during 1970- 72. Joined Chittagong University in 1972 and served there as ‘Associate Professor’ during 1972-76. In CU., he was president of Teacher’s Association, Proctor of the university and the Teacher – in – charge of CUCSU.

He joined University of Mosul as a Professor (1976- 78) and was transferred to Mustansiriya University, Baghdad, Iraq in 1978- 80. He was instrumental in organizing a Bangladesh Community School with the help of Bangladesh Embassy and he was elected as the first President of the Governing Board. Then he went to Libya and joined Al-Fateh University, Tripoli as a Professor in 1981 and worked there till 1989.

He joined Jahangirnagar University, in 1991 and during his tenure here, he became Chairman of the department, Director of IIT, (with the rank of a Dean), Chairman of the Deans’ Committee, Editor of the Journal of Science, JU., also Editor of the Journal of Mathematics, JU. He retired from JU., as a Professor in 2007.

After retirement, he worked in several private universities in Dhaka, including NSU, AIUB, Uttara University, BUP and few others.

He became Vice- Chancellor of Royal University of Dhaka at Banani and worked there for about a year and half. In Uttara University, he is the ‘Chief Editor’ of the Journal of Science, Engineering and Technology. He was also appointed as the “Dean of the School of Science and Engineering” and also of the School of “Civil, Environmental, and Industrial Engineering”.

He became president of Bangladesh Mathematical Society for the period 2020- 20. Previously he was Vice President and Executive Member of BMS several times during the last 30 years.

Professor Khan has several published text books and over 25 research publications.

On the social arena, he was president of the governing Board of Dhobakhola Coronation High School, (his alma- mater) for over 10 years.

He is also the founder President of Govt. Momtaz Uddin Khan Girls’ School, Pabna.

His family consists of wife Rijia, two sons Arif and Asheq and a daughter Urmi.
