Department of Mathematics has 08 full-time faculty members. This Department offers both B.Sc. in Mathematics and M.Sc. in Mathematics (2 years and 1 year) programs. At present, there are more than 350 students studying on these various programs and there are around 2000 alumni of this department.
Analysis and mathematical modeling of the natural laws are performed in the offered programs of Mathematics Department by conducting relevant courses.
The Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest departments of Uttara University. It was established in 2004. The knowledge of Mathematics is essential for all scientists; it is the language with which theories and natural laws are formulated and ideas are expressed. As such, the prime concern of this department is to encompass the fundamental knowledge of Mathematics in the diversified fields of Science, Technology and Engineering. One of the far reaching goals of the department is to produce graduates who will contribute to implant logical approaches of mathematics in all levels of education in Bangladesh. The department currently has 09 highly qualified faculty members, 02 supporting stuff and lab assistant, about 343 students & 1894 alumni. This Department’s computer lab is equipped with high performance computers along with state of the art software packages for scientific and mathematical simulation of real life complex problems.

|1. B.Sc.(Hon’s) in Mathematics(4 Year’s Program):||Bachelor of Science in Mathematics is offered for the students of SSC and HSC or equivalent background.|
|2. M.Sc. in Mathematics(2 year’s Program):||Master of Science in Mathematics degree is offered for the students of B. Sc. (Pass) degree / equivalent degree background.|
|3. M.Sc. in Mathematics(One Year Program):||Master of Science in Mathematics degree is offered for the students of B. Sc. (Hon’s) degree /M. Sc. in Physics /equivalent degree background.|
Overview of the programs:The Department of Mathematics works for providing its students with a high quality education so that they are well prepared to become high competent Mathematicians in the fields of Pure mathematics for the education sector in primary, secondary and tertiary levels to fulfill the demands of national and international standard; Business, Economical and Banking sectors for trade and commerce; Agricultural and Environmental modeling and simulations; and advancement of Health sectors to raise the level of global recognition. The courses of study for the Undergraduate and Graduate programs of Mathematics are structured to provide a foundation in basic Mathematics, Sciences, Engineering and Technologies. These programs also have sufficient general education to enhance the cultural growth of the student and develop professionalism with a strong social awareness.
For B. Sc. (Hon’s) degree in Mathematics, students who have passed S.S.C. and H.S.C. examinations in the science group or having equivalent degree/ diploma with a GPA of 2.50 in each examination may be admitted to the program subject to the rules of the University. Total 144 credits need to be completed in 12 semesters in order to complete the degree. A student having B.Sc. (Pass) degree in Mathematics and Physics with 40% marks or CGPA 2.00 out of 4 may be admitted to the M. Sc. (2-Year) program. For the service holder the above condition may be relaxed. In 6 semesters 72 credits are offered in this program. For the M. Sc. (One Year) program, a student having M.Sc. (Pre.) Mathematics /B.Sc.(Hons) in Mathematics and M.Sc in Physics having 40% marks or CGPA 2.00 out of 4 may be admitted in the program. Total 36 credits need to be completed in 3 semesters in this program. Each academic year is divided into 3 Semesters (Spring, Summer and Fall), each having a duration of 13 weeks (5x13= 65 working days). There shall be Mid-term Examination after conducting 6 weeks classes. After Mid-term examination and conducting of 7 Weeks classes’ Final examination will be held at the end of each semester.
Objectives of the programs:
- 1. To create an atmosphere to nurture the scientific methods and mathematical reasoning as tools of problem solving and engaging with the research processes.
- 2. To encourage the students for participating in the classrooms, seminars, Math Olympiads and other related national and international activities; involving in novel research to raise the experience at highest level.
- 3. To build dynamic and interactive leadership for the corresponding fields.
- 4. To prepare the students for applying both theoretical and simulation knowledge of mathematics and science to their academic and professionals careers.
- 5. To put a high priority on student learning in individual and group environment.
