In this context, the role of qualified and skilled graduates becomes even more crucial. I am hopeful that fresh graduates from Uttara University will apply their skills, knowledge and leadership qualities to address these challenges and contribute to the progress and development of Bangladesh.

I recall with gratitude the contribution and sacrifices of students from all educational institutions, including Uttara University, during the July-August uprising. This historic event remains an enduring symbol of courage, resilience and unwavering commitment to justice. One pressing issue is the increasing trend of students leaving the country for higher studies after completing their secondary education. While this has been a global trend, it has grown significantly in recent years, highlighting a perceived lack of confidence in our local institutions. To reverse this trend, we must focus on improving the quality of education and research in our universities to ensure that students find compelling opportunities at home. I believe both public and private universities will play an important role in this endeavour.

Efforts are already underway to depoliticize our education sector and ensure merit-based appointments across institutions. These changes are vital to restore trust and elevate the standards of higher education.

However, later on, the University changed the earlier motto to ‘Excellence in Higher Education and Research’ and contributed significantly in higher education and research. Besides, it is my firm belief that the university will encourage students to use practical knowledge and skills to help them attain success in the professional world. Moreover, I hope that the university’s graduating students will play a vital role by implementing their academic knowledge and moral values to fulfil social responsibilities toward building a better Bangladesh for all.

It is an honour and rare privilege with which I participate in Uttara University's 9th convocation on 25th January of the 25th year of the 21st century; an auspicious day indeed! Although this is my first time experiencing a convocation in the Uttara University fashion, I can testify through my over three-decade teaching legacy that this convocation I look forward to the most. The young chaps, who now hold the honour as undergraduates proved that they are ready to take over the world. But this monumental task was only possible through the tireless, concerted effort of their parents and guardians, teachers and this academy, but themselves, most importantly. We felicitate your success.

Time flies fast and the 9th Convocation is already the second convocation since Uttara University moved to the state-of-the-art permanent campus on July 1, 2023. Congratulations to the classes of the 9th convocation. From this day forward, you have the responsibility to face the world on your own, but you also possess the tool to shape your future on your own terms: your education from Uttara University. But you also become a student of the world today, for the road to learning is a never-ending one. The longstanding commitment of the academician body of Uttara University is also a reason for your success.

Across time, Uttara University has adapted to meet the needs of students, upgraded to meet the demands of higher education, and stood against the test of time for 22 years and counting. The wide array of 14 academic disciplines Uttara University provides across five Schools concurs with the global academic landscape. As the whole nation developed, Uttara University has also reformed from its former motto "Quality Education at Affordable Tuition" to "Excellence in Higher Education and Research."

For the first, time in Uttara University's 22-year operation, we have ranked 276th in the World University Ranking for Innovation 2024 (WURI) among the Global Top 300 Innovative Universities. The very recent achievement is a testament to how fervent Uttara University stands about its new motto. The 2024 ranking is only the beginning of a series of accreditations and further rankings this university is striving to achieve in the upcoming five years. Conjunct with that roadmap is our desire to contend with the top-ranking private and public universities of Bangladesh. Eventually, Uttara University will bestow upon the brightest minds of our country Doctoral degrees on the most challenging and in-demand topics.

Uttara University has now embarked on a new vision, mission and mandate, “Excellence in Higher Education and Research.” There is no gainsay that without research we cannot progress, rather modern life is the offspring of technology and research. The generation of new knowledge and understanding the fundamentals of our life and nature is the foundation of all education.

Uttara University has, therefore, been fostering and promoting its objective to put in place variety of measures whereby faculty and students across the campus can work together both nationally and internationally to learn and discuss on observations that are relevant to the global community.

Uttara University is playing a pioneering role in solving the needs and commitments of our students in pursuing their dreams. Our students have achieved an academic education that has given them literacy skills in language, ICT, digital and financial as well as enabling them in value creation.
