Credit Transfer

Credit Transfer Policy

Uttara University (UU) accepts credit transfers from accredited/recognized foreign and Bangladeshi universities, depending on the specific institution and its academic regulations. However, some general principles typically apply for credit transfer to UU programs:

Accreditation/Recognition:

UU recognizes credits earned from institutions that are accredited or recognized by the appropriate authorities in Bangladesh. This ensures that the quality of education meets certain standards.

Credit Equivalency:

There is a process to evaluate the equivalence of courses taken at other institutions to those offered by UU. This evaluation considers factors such as course content, course duration (credit/notional hours), level of the courses, and types (i.e., GED, Foundation, Core, etc.).

Minimum Grade Requirement:

Students seeking credit transfer may need to meet a minimum grade requirement in the courses they wish to transfer. This ensures that the student has achieved a certain level of proficiency in the subject matter. Different programs (undergraduate/graduate) have minimum requirements for accepting credits from different institutions. However, the general requirement for accepting a course is C+ or above. Meeting the general requirement does not guarantee the acceptance of the course credit, as it also depends on other credit equivalence requirements.

Documentation:

Students need to provide documentation, such as transcripts and/or course descriptions, from their previous institution to support their credit transfer request. Transfer of credit will be considered only after a student enrolls in the program by fulfilling the admission requirements as laid down for regular students. The original copy of official transcripts from the previous institution must be submitted for credit transfer evaluation.

Limits on Transfer Credits:

There are limits on the number of credits that can be transferred towards a degree program. This ensures that students fulfill a substantial portion of their degree requirements at Uttara University. A maximum of 50% of the total credits mentioned in the syllabus will be eligible for transferring credits.

Approval Process:

Credit transfer requests undergo a formal approval process, which involves academic advisors, department heads, or committees responsible for overseeing academic matters. Upon receiving the completed credit transfer application, the concerned department will send the evaluated/approved credit transfer documents to the COE for further processing.

The above-mentioned process serves as a general guideline for credit transfer to different UU programs. Additionally, seeking guidance from academic advisors or the concerned departments is strongly advised for clarity on the requirements and process for transfer.
