Founder’s Message

Professor Dr. M. Azizur Rahman

My vision for Uttara University was to create an institution that provides quality education and serves as a center of excellence in research. Soon after I had moved to Bangladesh from the United States in the late 80’s, I observed a decline in the quality of higher education in the country, coupled with a rising demand for advanced study but having limited seats. This has led to the establishment of a few institutes, most notably Uttara University in 2003. Today, it stands as a reputed institution offering a vast array of academic, non-academic, and research facilities. I believe this momentum will carry us into the foreseeable future as a research-focused educational institution.

We have established centers and institutes across various fields to create research opportunities for academics. Additionally, we have formed partnerships and collaborations with academic, governmental, and commercial organizations to promote research and collaboration. I envisioned Uttara University as a place where students could exchange ideas, pursue their passions, and acquire new knowledge to excel in life. Quality higher education is a direct result of strong self-discipline, which stems from the faith we place in our students.

Uttara University’s affiliations with top-ranked universities worldwide enable students and faculty to collaborate in innovation, exchange and mobility. The rise of new academic fields and technological advancements has increased the need for multidisciplinary approaches to solve complex problems, seize opportunities, and contribute to national development. By fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, an interdisciplinary approach prepares our students to address real-world challenges and improve society.

Our goal has also been to reduce student dropout rates, engage students in various clubs, prepare them for the global market and ensure that more of our students can represent Bangladesh on the international stage. We have identified and addressed factors contributing to student dropout, including academic, personal, and financial challenges. As part of our social responsibility, Uttara University is committed to serving students from ethnic minorities and providing education to deserving but financially disadvantaged students. We have supported them in every possible way, and these very students have later secured prestigious positions, particularly in global corporate sectors.

I firmly believe that the academic and research programs at Uttara University are well-equipped to meet your academic needs. I look forward to welcoming you to our community of Uttara University of intensive, extensive and congenial environment of inter-active learning process.
