Uttara University’s Department of Islamic Studies recently held a colourful and engaging Freshers’ Reception on November 19, 2024, marking the start of the new academic year. The event welcomed new students and provided a platform for them to connect with faculty, senior students, and distinguished guests.
The reception was honoured by several distinguished guests, whose presence and speeches added immense value to the occasion. The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Eaysmin Ara Lekha, the Vice Chancellor of Uttara University, who served as the Chief Guest. Her speech was a source of inspiration for all new students, emphasizing the importance of education, integrity and personal growth. She urged the students to pursue academic excellence, contribute to their communities, and embrace the diverse opportunities available at the university.
Prof. Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Uttara University, also attended as the Guest of Honor. His words of encouragement resonated with the new students, highlighting the university’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, intellectually stimulating environment that nurtures both academic and personal development.
The event was further distinguished by the presence of several other notable figures from the university community, including Dr. Shah Ahmed, the Dean of the School of Arts and Social Science, and Anupama Afroz, the Assistant Professor and Program Chair of the Department of Islamic Studies. Their support and guidance are pivotal in shaping the academic experiences of students within the department, and their speeches underscored the values of discipline, respect, and hard work in the pursuit of knowledge.
One of the most memorable parts of the reception was the Islamic cultural program presented by the students. The program, which was deeply rooted in Islamic traditions, featured Quranic recitations, Nasheeds, and other spiritually enriching performances. The students’ heartfelt presentations not only showcased their talent but also highlighted the cultural richness and spiritual depth of Islam.
