The Department of Civil Engineering at Uttara University held its Freshers’ Reception and Farewell Ceremony 2024 on 22 November, embracing the theme “Civil Engineering 4.0: Shaping a New Era of Civilizations.” The event brought together students, faculty, and distinguished guests to celebrate the past, present, and future of civil engineering innovation.
The event featured prominent dignitaries, including Professor Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha, Vice Chancellor of Uttara University, Professor Dr Gour Gobinda Goswami, Pro Vice Chancellor of Uttara University, and Dr Md. Sultanul Islam, Dean of the School of Civil, and Environment and Industrial Engineering. The keynote address was delivered by Dr Khondaker Shakil, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), who inspired students with his insights on innovation and leadership in modern civil engineering.The event was chaired by Dr Md. Saiful Islam, Chairman of the Department of Civil Engineering, who underscored the significance of equipping students with knowledge and tools to lead in an era of rapid technological advancement.
A notable feature of the ceremony was a live demonstration of drone mapping technology by Edifice Consultancy Ltd., offering students a glimpse into the transformative potential of cutting-edge technologies in civil engineering. This demonstration reinforced the department’s commitment to preparing students for the evolving demands of the industry.
The day’s festivities also included a dynamic cultural program, highlighting the vibrant spirit of Uttara University. Performances by students added a celebratory touch, fostering camaraderie and showcasing the creative talent within the university community.
In her address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha emphasized the pivotal role of innovation and technology in shaping modern civil engineering. She urged students to embrace their responsibilities as future leaders in building resilient and sustainable civilizations.
The program concluded with heartfelt farewells to the outgoing students, coupled with a warm welcome to the freshers, symbolizing the department’s dedication to nurturing academic excellence and fostering a thriving community of future engineers.
