Associate Professor Dr. Md. Sultanul Islam is currently working as the Dean, School of Civil, Environment and Industrial Engineering at Uttara University. Dr. Islam completed his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology in 2004. Later, he achieved his Master of Science in Geoenvironmental Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering, both from Cardiff University, UK. Cardiff University, globally recognized as the best university in Wales, is situated in the capital city of Cardiff and is a member of the prestigious Russell Group of Universities in the UK. Apart from teaching and conducting research which he is very passionate about, Dr. Islam also has significant experience in the development sector in different capacities. Upon returning to Bangladesh to begin his professional career, Dr. Islam joined BRAC, the number one non-governmental development organization in the world, to serve the rural community using his technical expertise in Environmental Engineering and Public Health. Initially, he served as Program Specialist in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) program and then as Program Manager in Disaster, Environment and Climate Change (DECC) program there. Before joining Uttara University as the Chairman in the Department of Civil Engineering, Dr. Islam previously worked as Associate Professor and Chairman at Presidency University as well as Assistant Professor at Daffodil International University, Presidency University and International University of Business, Agriculture and Technology (Semester Faculty). He also served as an honorable member of the Syndicate and Academic Council at Presidency University. He has been an active researcher in the field of Civil and Environmental Engineering that involves collaboration with faculty members and research staff of renowned universities, both home and abroad. A number of these research works have been published in various peer-reviewed and Scopus-indexed journals. He was invited as a visiting academic for one month in the School of Engineering at Cardiff University in 2022.
