Today, 26 February-2018, a Fashion Show-2018 has been celebrated at the Family Lounge of Uttara Club arranged by the Department of Fashion Design & Technology under the School of Civil, Environment and Industrial Industry, Uttara University.
Mr. Hasanul Haq Inu, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Information, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh graced the program as Chief Guest while Prof. Dr. M. Azizur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Dr. Eaysmin Ara lekha, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Uttara University were present as special guest.
Mr. Nabid Aziz, one of the members of Uttara University Trustee Board and the Convener of that Fashion Show said in his speech that “I believe fashion is a form of a universal language which allows reveals our identities to play the role we want to by shaping our look to show certain attitudes or values. It's amazing that a piece of clothing can change how we feel, how we hold our self, and even how we act and react. The trend of Fashion is very dynamic and in constant change, especially in the globalized world we live in.” And the Department of Fashion Design and Technology is working to provide skilled and educated manpower to this country.
In the closing speech, Prof. Dr. Eaysmin Ara Lekha thanked all the participants and the Department of Fashion Design and Technology for arranging such Fashion Show-2018. She felt proud to be a participant. She also expressed that Bangladesh is the second largest revenue earning country in the whole world from the garments sector. In the financial year 2016-2017 the RMG industry generated US$28.14 billion which was 80.7% of the total export earnings in
exports and 12.36% of the GDP. Bangladesh’s garments industry has already taken on green manufacturing practices”.
She said, “As a part of the civil society, we can never ignore our responsibility towards the development of garments sector and the development of Bangladesh as a whole. So, I believe our efforts to organize this “Fashion Show-2018” will play a crucial part in that regards”.
In this program, different types of dresses designed by the designer of that respective department Mr. Mamunur Rashid, Jahara Jawwad, Shaila Akter Nova, Rokshana Akter Lina, Anamika Das Annana, Marium Akter Shoma, and Ratna have been displayed by 11 queues.
Norren Wadud, Assistant Professor, Department of Fashion Design and Technology, Uttara University was the Choreographer. The students of that department namely Khadiza Akter Mou, Sanjida Rahman Shimu, Nishat Ara Shoshi, Ahona, Susomi, Tahmina, Asha Akter Ana, Nishat Yasmin Khan, Adiba Akter Dola, Afsana Khan Tura, Fahmida Islam, Sanjida Majid Shanjona, Nurun Nahar Popi, Shorifun Nahar, Shormin Afrin Nodi, Mousumi Akhter Rita, Rumpa, Shajib, Md. Rafiqul Islam, Arko, Arifa, Mitu Umme Habiba, Mohona, Alo, Bithi, Takwa Hussain, Maham Jawwad, Nova, Tareq and Rahul participate in the ramp.
Along with Mr. Farruque Mohammad Masud, Chairman of the Department of Fashion Design and Technology, Registrar, Kazi Mahiuddin, Deans, Senior Officials and students of that department were present. Also, different Chairman, CEO and Director of different Garments industrialists were present at the program.
